introduction

jean-heron vicquemare is a finely crafted mess of a man. he's spent a large part of his life as a drifter and a career criminal who wouldn't say no to much if it meant getting paid, then the last nine years of his life crawling along through treatment-resistant clinical depression, and four of those with the added strain of trying to keep a handle on his career and those involved with it; most specifically, his rabid dog of a heterosexual life partner, harry du bois, that consumed all of his existence up until the bitter, caustic end. or what he thought was the end, anyway. he said he'd stay away for good this time, but he couldn't escape his satellite-officer role; landing in denouement had him back in the orbit of that same partner, now seemingly de-clawed and muzzled and a complete amnesiac. it only took jean and harry a few months to reattach themselves at the hip, and they found themselves married after 2 years. unfortunately, after less than six months of that married life, his partner answered the call of the void, and now jean finds himself missing such a large part of himself that he’s surprised he even still exists at all.

jean himself is a pretty moody guy. just a real grump. he’s not exactly the friendliest right off the bat – at least not visibly so. he’s near-impossible to read, deadpan and curt, but he’s rarely dishonest about what he thinks (what he feels is another issue entirely however) even if what he thinks isn’t exactly kind. while denouement has certainly softened him over time and allowed him to let his guard down significantly, he is still very much a product of his environment: very rough around the edges with a weak moral compass. despite this, he’s very silly and lives for the bit. it’s not often clear if/when he’s partaking in a bit, but it’s safe to assume he is, and that he’ll commit to it to a detrimental degree if he must. some might call it irony poisoning, but he just calls it being the life of the party. ha ha.

jean lives in saturn, euros, where he works as a farmhand on a raven's run ranch, and his hobbies are mostly all extremely boring and lame to most people. they don’t even bring him much joy either due to the constant fog of anhedonia he lives in. but he’s still willing and able to talk to anyone who will listen about radio and entroponetics (that’s the study of the pale, which means next to nothing in denouement, but given how much it has taken up his life here, he has no choice but to know things about it). he’s also a bit of an art hoe and enjoys all mediums of art in an extremely pretentious sort of way, and he’s also a total gym bro, but he is in no way healthy about that and might be a little too intense with it for most people. he is from a universe that wasn’t as technologically advanced as earth - a mix of 20s, 40s, and 60s tech - and so while he is relatively up-to-date with more modern technology, he is quite old-fashioned in a lot of ways. all this to say, he really likes old/vintage technology.

UGLYCRY DISCLAIMER

he’s really not like that all the time. his uglycry persona and how he acts in real life are worlds apart; he’s a lot more willing to voice his stranger thoughts there and be a bit more silly than he might allow himself to be in real life. don’t worry though! he does have the capacity to be like that, but it’s not a constant thing and might not really be a thing until he’s a little more comfortable around someone. also, i’m always willing to “canonise” (aka work towards in canon) any uglycry interaction or relationship you’d like, if you want to talk about that!
